In a heartwarming display of compassion and commitment to humanity, Hon. Edith Nwosu, fondly known as Ikukuoma Nwangele, has provided free medical treatment to over 138 inmates at the Owerri Correctional Center.

Through her Edith Nwosu Healthcare Foundation, Ikukuoma and her team of dedicated healthcare professionals delivered much-needed care to the inmates, addressing pressing health concerns and offering a glimmer of hope to those who have been silently suffering.

The outreach, which took place on June 26, 2025, was a testament to Nwosu's unwavering passion for improving the livelihoods, health, and well-being of the downtrodden. According to data from the correctional center, the facility houses 3,144 male inmates and 31 female inmates, with 138 of them requiring urgent medical attention. 

The Founder Hon. Edith Nwosu emphasized during the outreach that the initiative aims at bridging the healthcare gap in prisons, where many inmates struggle with untreated medical conditions.

She reinstated her passion for humanity and her Foundation's commitment to touching numerous lives, improving healthcare and income of the less privileged. 

During the outreach, Dr. Ijeoma Mishael, a resident in Obstetrics and Gynecology, led the clinical team and reported that the most common health issues among the inmates were skin infections, malaria, and urinary tract infections (UTIs). Many inmates had undiagnosed chronic conditions, which were identified and treated during the outreach.

The inmates expressed their gratitude for the medical care, with some sharing their personal stories of struggle and neglect. Eze Obinna, an inmate since 2017, developed an eye problem and experienced a spike in blood pressure after learning of his mother's passing. He praised the foundation for providing much-needed medical attention. Chibuzor Peter, another inmate, attributed his respiratory issues to the cold environment in the prison and commended the foundation for caring enough to provide medical help.

The State Deputy Controller of the Correctional Center lauded the foundation's efforts, emphasizing that partnerships like this are crucial in addressing the systemic challenges faced by the correctional service. He noted that while the Nigerian Correctional Service has undergone rebranding, inadequate medical resources persist, and collaborations with organizations like the Edith Nwosu Healthcare Foundation are vital. 

He highlighted the center's efforts to rehabilitate inmates through education and skills development, adding that the center runs primary and secondary schools, and many inmates sit for NECO exams. Additionally, he revealed that the center is working with the Open University to introduce tertiary education, underscoring its commitment to rehabilitation over punishment.

Nwosu appealed to Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma to visit the custodial center and increase state support, improve healthcare of the inmates and proffer solutions to their other serial challenges.

A Non Governmental Organization, The Dorcas Foundation For Women And Girl Child(DOFFWAG) has congratulated Barr. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, Representative Member for Ideato North and South Federal Constituency, on his remarkable 2-year legislative anniversary.

 In a Statement, the Founder, Dorcas Samson Achi commended the Lawmaker's tireless advocacy and commitment to championing crucial interventions through points of order, motions, and bill sponsorship which has immensely benefitted women.

She recalled her experiences touring schools in Imo State during the NGO's intervention projects and revealed the positive impact of Ugochinyere's school renovation initiative which transformed numerous schools in Ideato.

She noted that his empowerment projects, including agricultural, skill acquisition, and women enrichment programs, have boosted the economy of women and small-scale enterprises.

Her words, "We appreciate Hon. Ugochinyere's annual scholarship scheme benefiting young girls and families and his support for female entrepreneurs, enabling them to become self-reliant and create jobs. His commitment to inclusion and promoting women's participation in politics and nation-building is noteworthy.

 Imo Labour Party To Inaugurate 675 LGA Officers for DMI June 14

Reinstates Commitment To Grassroot Governance

The Imo State Labour Party (LP) has intensified preparations for the inauguration of its 675 Local Government Officers for Directorate of Mobilization and Integration(DMI).

The event which shall be taking place on Saturday June 14, 2025 at the New Labour Party State Secretariat, No. 57 Okigwe Road, Owerri has as Special Guests of Honour the National Chairman of the party, Barr. Julius Abure and Director General, Directorate of Mobilization and Integration (DMI), Hon. Marcel Ngogbehie.  

In a release made available to the press, the chairman of the planning committee and the Imo State LP Women Leader, Chief Mrs. Princess Oleka-Chinedu officially invites party members, stakeholders and the general public to witness and participate in the upcoming event. 

According to her, the inauguration of these 675 officers is not only a structural expansion but a strategic declaration of readiness for grassroots governance, civic enlightenment, and electoral victory.

Oleka-Chinedu emphasized that the landmark event shall mark a pivotal step in the party’s ongoing grassroots mobilization drive across the 27 LGAs of Imo State and  reinforce the party’s commitment to inclusive political participation and democratic deepening.

The Party's State Coordinator for Directorate of Mobilization and Integration (DMI), Mrs. Katchy Iwunze, while highlighting the essence of the program, stated that governance is grass rooted, hence the need for inauguration of officers in every LGA to mobilize and integrate potential party members and party faithfuls so as to foster Party's growth, acceptability and victory at the elections.

The Chairman of the Party in Imo State, Barr. Calistus Ihejiagwa while addressing the press about the upcoming event reiterated that the party remains resolute in its mission to entrench true democracy and empower the people of Imo State, and expressed hope that the event shall make history and usher in a new chapter of transformational leadership, grassroots mobilization and people-driven governance in Imo State.

Women have been used to set traps for indomitable and matchless heros like Samson in the Bible according to the book of Judges. He was a mighty and stoic warrior. The thought of him sends cold sweats down his enemies' spines. He was widely celebrated and feared but was captured by a woman who ordinarily cannot stand  his greatness. King David, the man after God's own heart could not resist a woman. He forgot who he was and what he represents at the sight of a naked woman. King Solomon had hundreds of wives and concubines yet could not withstand the charm and personality of the Shulamite woman. The Great Adolf Hitler, a German politician and leader of the Nazi Party, a resounding historic figure, the man behind the murder of six million Jews suddenly became fond of a Jewish little girl Rosa Bernile Nienau. His genuine affinity for the young girl amazed everyone, a notorious hater of the Jews suddenly protecting a Jew. She was called Hitler's sweetheart. The great Hitler cherished his friendship with the little girl. She puts smiles on his serious face. 

 Love according to Paulo Coelho "is an untamed force. When we try to control it, it destroys us. When we try to imprison it, it enslaves us. When we try to understand it, it leaves us feeling lost and confused". Some of the great and respected men in our society today dance to the tunes of ordinary women even prostitutes.  They readily obey the commands of these women especially when it's conditional. 

The power of a woman lies in her submission and loyalty to her man. Submission is service not slavery. It is not weakness but is a great strength. When a woman submits to her man, it will increase her respect before him. You can easily find favor in the eyes of your boss or people around when you are loyal. Most times it takes stooping to conquer. Men are bossy and egoistic in nature, and therefore hate women that treat them in ways that diminish their egos or make them feel inadequate. 

Some women indirectly manipulate their husbands but with wisdom. It is with a smooth tongue that the snail sails through the thorns. No matter how hardened a man is, a woman with his password can live happily and peacefully with him. 

Oscar Wilde once said that "You don't love someone for their looks, or their clothes, or for their posh car, but because they sing a song only you can hear". That song is the password.  The password that she alone knows how to use. With the use of the password the man becomes accessible, enjoyable, gullible and even controllable. 

 An adage says that a gentle-voiced wife cheats her husband.  Men distaste loud-voiced woman. Gentility is not cowardice. It is a great strength. Good men love happy and peaceful homes. Once a woman is capable of making a man happy and feel peaceful, she has automatically become an angel irrespective of her physical appearance. 

Every seemingly ugly woman has something beautiful about her.

The power of a woman also lies in her knowledge, wisdom and intelligence. A woman should seek knowledge, read books, chase positive innovations and become versatile. Be that woman that has an idea about business, farming, cooking, politics, government, sports, entertainment and virtually everything. You need ideas to build your home, to raise your children, to achieve your dreams and to be that helpmate God mandated you to be. Let people seek you because of what you can offer not because they want to use you. 

The Power of a woman is evident in her skills. What can you do? What solution can you bring? What problem can you solve? Are you satisfied with just being a wife and mother when others are CEOs and Directors of companies and organizations, yet great wives and mothers. Every woman needs a skill. Your cooking skills can be an irresistible attraction. Your digital or conventional skills can open chapters of opportunities for you as a woman. No woman is permitted to be a liability in this age. Be a problem solver. Women are becoming more. If you don't have a skill, get one, you will need it now or later. 

The Power of a woman is perfected in her character, charm and personality. What is your strength and what is your weakness?. Your character can make you powerful, sought after and appealing. Your attitude and lifestyle can be more eloquent than your voice. There is a lot of strength and power in a distinguished character. Your refusal to do the wrong things may cost you material things momentarily but sticking to a life of virtue pays greater dividends. Your charm, smiles, beautiful features, dress sense, sensibility and lovable personality can open doors that your certificates can't. 

Do not use your physical beauty for ashes. You are worth more than few minutes pleasure. You are worth more than being a secret. You should not only have your body to offer. Your power does not lie in-between your legs. It lies in the strength of your character. Use your power to touch lives, bring solutions and contribute meaningfully to the society. Don't use your sexuality to break homes, maim lives and betray trusts.

As part of her projects for girls in rural communities, a Non Governmental Organization in Imo, Dorcas Foundation For Women And Girl Child (DOFFWAG) has celebrated the 2025 international menstrual hygiene day with young female students of Atta Girls Secondary School in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State.

The NGO which is known for advocating the rights of women and girls as well as empowering, enlightening and educating young girls, on 28th May organized a "pad a girl, teach a girl" campaign themed "Promoting Menstrual Hygiene and Dignity".

Speaking in Owerri before the campaign kick-off, the Founder, Dorcas Samson Achi stated that the project focuses on advocating and raising awareness on menstrual hygiene and health as a critical aspect of human rights, dignity, and health with the aim of encouraging a shift towards a society that supports and empowers girls and women during their menstrual cycle. 

She emphasized that the NGO wish to break the silence surrounding menstruation, end the stigma, and ensure that young girls in Imo are provided with sanitary materials to have a safe, dignified and comfortable menstrual hygiene experience. 

According to her, she observed that some female students and teens residing in rural communities are not very knowledgeable about puberty and menstruation, hence hope to use the campaign to sensitize and equip them on how to manage their puberty, menstruation, ovulation, while maintaining appropriate menstrual hygiene, good diet and positive attitude.

The campaign officially commenced in Atta Girls Secondary School now Atta High School with detailed lectures on menstruation, ovulation and personal hygiene aptly delivered by Harriet Ijeoma, a Woman Rights Advocate and Media Practitioner. Aside the lectures on health, Ijeoma revealed the intricacies of career choice, with emphasis on the students' personal interests, inclinations and dreams. 

210 female students of both Junior and Senior Secondary actively participated in the lectures, sharing their menstrual challenges and experiences in their  journey to womanhood. A good number of them asked numerous questions drawn from their individual menstrual experiences and revealed the different items they use to soak their menstrual flow.

The Foundation also organized an impromptu prize giving quiz competition amongst the students which centered on puberty and menstruations with the aim of deepening the menstrual subject and making the teenage girls conversant with the terminologies of the subject. The quiz recorded great success with 10 of the students in participation. The participants were rewarded with books and other learning materials.

The NGO freely distributed writing materials, sanitary pads and books on menstrual management to the female students to celebrate the international menstrual hygiene day. 

The Vice Principal of the school, Mr. Samson Iwuala who witnessed the insightful lectures delivered by the NGO, appreciated the founder of the NGO for her efforts towards impacting  knowledge and dishing out indispensable health information to the students. He thanked her for her commitment in women and girls' development. 

A classroom teacher who doubles as the School's Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Ebele Onyeji thanked the Foundation for the material and knowledge based gifts given freely to the students, expressing hope that the lectures will be useful to the students both now and in the future.
