Democracy Day | FOMIHA CELEBRATES NIGERIA DEMOCRACY

Preaches True Democracy as Way Forward

By Dorcas Samson Achi

As Nigeria celebrates democracy day today, Former Imo House of Assembly Members (FOMIHA) have appreciated Nigerian government for sustaining democracy all these years, while emphasizing the importance of replicating true democracy in our nation.

FOMIHA President Hon. Ugochukwu Nzekwe in a statement made available to his Media Office this morning, in commemoration of 2024 Democracy Day, commended the efforts of our heroes past who fought for the liberty, freedom and free government where every one's right is protected. He appreciated their struggle in ensuring that Nigeria stepped out of military and authoritarian government into a government where the interest of the common man is guaranteed.

The Ex-Parliamentarian lamented the infringement of rights of some people in this country even in a democratic dispensation, describing such situation as a breach to true democracy while charging the government to uphold the principles of equity, justice, due process, rule of law, etc, in order to ensure true democracy.

His words, "democracy is justice, fairness, equity and liberty. Individual liberty is best secured in a democratic political system that treats all citizens as equal before the law.

“As we celebrate this democracy day, let us reflect on the factors mitigating against our true democracy and fight them for national development"

“ We must endeavor to address all the challenges posing threats to our true democracy at all levels”

“ Happy Democracy Day to all Nigerians. May we enjoy the dividends of democracy in our own country. I see a greater and brighter nation emerging from the ashes and thralls of this present time."
